All skin needs hydration
And what better way to give your skin the moisture it needs with a quick and simple DIY body butter! This recipe is so simple and safe to make that it makes for a quick distraction for kids on the holidays. It also makes for a great step in teaching your youngling’s about skin care and how fun it can be when made at home.
DIY Simple Body Butter Ingredients
This formula is so easy, you may already have a few of the things we need!
- 1/4 cup coconut oil (the hard kind)
- 1/4 cup Shea Butter
- 12 drops of essential oil (you can omit this step in favour of oil infusion)
That’s it! That is everything you need for the recipe. Now, if you’re like me and not a fan of essential oils, you can infuse your coconut oil with dried herb matter for 6 to 12 weeks before creating a body butter. Yes, it is a pain in the back but with the oil infusion, you’ll now have a simple DIY body butter that has that plant’s medicinal properties infused!
What am i putting on my skin?
A nourishing dance of hydrating butters and oils!
Coconut oil is highly moisturising, naturally antibacterial and anti fungal. It’s light on the skin, smells amazing and can aid in calming down the skin by locking in moisture. So why not pop some coconut oil on your scalp, cover it in wrap while you do this recipe. Now you have a great, moisturising hair mask ready to be washed off once the body butter whip is complete.
Shea Butter is just as hydrating and moisturising as coconut oil, making it a great healer for scars and reducing the appearance of stretch marks. It can also help reduce inflammation which may aid in healing and calming down acne.
The essential oil part is really just for the scent as some EOs can be irritating to the skin. This is why I will always use infused oils. They’re safe and natural, with the addition of the plants healing properties.
Again, really simple and safe!
- Add all of the ingredients into a mixing bowl
- Using and electric beater or metal whisk, whip the mixture fast until it becomes light and airy
- Scoop the mixture into a sanitised and dry sealed jar
This recipe makes enough for a 120ml jar. Adjust quantities for a bigger batch
A Simple DIY body butter complete!
All done! Finished! Now you have a simple body butter you can be proud of. When used daily, it will keep your skin feeling well nourished.
Don’t be afraid to experiment! Add different herbs to the oil, different butters and different oils. This is but a simple recipe guide, a great starting point for do it yourself skin care.
Now, since this is a very very simple recipe, do note that this recipe will have the body butter lasting 9 months. Do keep the butter in a dark place if the jar you used is clear and place the butter in the refrigerator on those hot, Aussie summer days! Think of the body butter to be like real butter, don’t let it turn into a jar of liquid oil.
